Mykonos: five-star hotels and how to fly there

By the JetChalet editors · Updated · How we check facts

Mykonos is a small Greek island in the Cyclades, and most of its hotels stand by the bays and beaches.17 Private jets land at its own airport, where a private flights lounge gives direct access to the aircraft.14 Summer is the peak: August 2025 brought 396,427 passengers through the airport.16

  • 1.58 millionpassengers through Mykonos airport in 2025 (provisional)16
  • 14 daysthe earliest a ground handler can ask for a parking permit12
  • 45 minutesby scheduled flight from Athens to Mykonos17

The short answer

  • Greek hotels are classified by stars. The register of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels rates the nine hotels on our main list five stars and the three backups four stars.
  • Private jets land at Mykonos airport (JMK). The operator's ground handler must get a parking permit, at most 14 days before arrival, and in summer a slot as well.
  • We publish no flight prices for Mykonos yet. Our guide to private jet costs explains how to ask operators for a quote.
  • US citizens need no visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180. At the border, the EU records fingerprints and a photo.

Flying a private jet into Mykonos

Every private flight needs a parking permit, requested by a ground handler from 14 days before arrival, and in summer a runway slot too.12

Details

Mykonos airport (code JMK) is run by Fraport Greece. Jets can land there, but parking and, in summer, runway slots are rationed.

  • A parking permit first

Every private or business flight needs a parking permit (PPR), requested by a ground handler with a Category 1 licence from the Greek civil aviation authority. Requests open 14 calendar days before arrival and are handled first come, first served.12

  • A slot in summer

In summer JMK is a coordinated airport (IATA Level 3): a flight also needs a runway slot that matches its parking permit. In winter it is not coordinated (Fraport Greece, PPR handbook).

  • Short winter hours

For winter 2026/27 (1 November 2026 to 27 March 2027) the airport opens at 7:30 or 8:30 a.m. and closes at 6:30 p.m. on most weekdays, with a midday break on Saturdays.13

The private jet route

Private jets fly straight to Mykonos, where a private flights lounge gives direct access to the aircraft.14 Plan around summer, when parking permits go first come, first served.12

Details

Private jets fly straight to Mykonos, and the airport has a private flights lounge, Delos, with fast track and direct access to the aircraft.14 A taxi stand is outside the Arrivals building.15

Plan around summer. In 2025 the airport handled 396,427 passengers in August and 6,709 in January (Mykonos airport, traffic statistics), and parking permits open only 14 days ahead.16 Ask the operator early which dates its ground handler can secure.

If Mykonos is full, scheduled flights connect Athens International with Mykonos in 45 minutes, and Thessaloniki in 1 hour 10 minutes.17

If your dates are flexible, an empty leg, a jet flying without passengers to its next job, can cost less than a normal charter; our guide to empty legs explains how they work and the catch. The parking permit still applies.

Fly straight to Mykonos, and book early

There are two ways in by air. These are what the airport and the Greek tourism office publish.

Before you go

US citizens need no visa for short stays, and the EU records fingerprints and a photo at the border.18,19

Details
  • Passport and visa

US citizens need no visa for short stays; a stay of more than 90 days within 180 needs a visa from a Greek embassy or consulate.18

  • Fingerprints at the border

The EU's Entry/Exit System has been fully running since 10 April 2026: it records your passport, fingerprints and a photo.19 US citizens will also need an ETIAS travel authorization once that system opens; in April 2026 the Commission scheduled it for the last quarter of 2026 (European Commission), so check before you travel.20

  • August is the peak

August 2025 brought 396,427 passengers through Mykonos airport, nearly sixty times January's 6,709 (Mykonos airport, traffic statistics). Book the hotel and the parking permit early for summer.

Questions people ask

Can a private jet land on Mykonos?

Yes. Mykonos airport (JMK) takes private jets, but the operator's ground handler must get a parking permit, at most 14 days before arrival, and in summer a runway slot too.

How far ahead can I book parking for a jet on Mykonos?

Requests open 14 calendar days before arrival and are handled first come, first served, so in summer the handler should ask on the first day.

Is Mykonos airport open at night?

In winter 2026/27 it closes at 6:30 p.m. on most days, at 7 p.m. on Sundays and 10 p.m. on Saturdays. Summer hours were not yet published when we checked.

Do US citizens need a visa for Greece?

No, not for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. You need a valid passport, and an ETIAS authorization once the EU starts that system.
